Canada April 2018 Weather Outlook

As we head into the end of March much of Canada is feeling above seasonal temperatures despite some persistent cold outbreaks. The greatest temperatures anomalies are being recorded in Quebec with parts of Ontario, Manitoba and the Maritimes not too far behind.  Colder than normal conditions linger in the agricultural regions of Saskatchewan and Alberta, as well as most of British Columbia. The coldest temperature anomalies in March have come in southern Alberta where winter just won’t give way to spring.

Looking forward the April it appears that the warmer than normal conditions will build for most of Canada.  Quebec continues to show the warmest temperature anomalies while the western provinces move more into spring-like weather with warmer than normal conditions. A small pocket in Southern Ontario looks to continue with seasonal to slightly below seasonal weather – much like what’s been experienced in March.  Watch for much of the snowpack across Canada to see a lot of melting with the warm conditions in the month ahead.

Drier than normal conditions will continue for NW Ontario and SE Manitoba for April.  Saskatchewan has received higher than normal precipitation in March and that’s likely to continue into the upcoming month.  Vancouver Island and surrounding coastal British Columbia is drier than normal over the last 30 days and this trend is forecast to continue for April.  Northern Alberta and Saskatchewan are also likely to see the drier than normal conditions continue.

The biggest change since March could be in the Maritime provinces where a drier than normal March could see wetter than normal conditions in April with Nor’Easters moving up the USA east coast.

Watch for our monthly forecast products each month.  We have expanded from Ontario to all of Canada starting with our Seasonal forecast issued last week.
