Ontario Could See a Return to Record Heat

Take a look at the mid-level flow (500mb) for yesterday as Ontario was breaking record high temperatures from Northern to Southern Ontario. (first image dated Sept.25) A ridge over the Great Lakes and a trough in the west allowed for a persistent warm muggy flow pattern into the province.

The next couple days will see that pattern break down as more seasonal temperatures return with a more typical west to east flow pattern.

I’m not convinced that this new pattern will on or that any cold breaks are in the cards for the middle of October.  Instead, I think we will see a return to some impressive heat.

Now take a look at the next image; notice the date and pattern.  This again is the 500mb level.  It appears the ridge could return, the trough sets up in the west and you guessed it – warm muggy air moves back into the eastern half of Ontario.

If this pattern does materialize then there’s a good chance that we could see even more record heat, with records falling heading into the Canadian Thanksgiving.

Turkey Dinner on the Beach anyone?!

Let’s wait a few days to see how well that ridge sets up in the east before we pack away our shorts and swimsuits. 😉
