Potential Cool-Down Coming at the End of This Long Weekend
Northeastern Ontario is currently at the time of year when temperatures peak. Starting at the end of this weekend, the average temperature usually starts to fall towards Winter; and right on queue, temperatures will do just that.
Saturday will be the warmest day of the weekend and sometime early next week – Monday, maybe Tuesday at the latest, colder air will rush into Northeastern Ontario to give notice that Fall is right around the corner.
The map above shows the forecasted temperature variance for Monday from normal values for on that date. Some areas between Sault Ste. Marie and James Bay will be 3-5 degrees colder than normal – meaning the usual daytime highs in the low 20s will be in the upper teens.
The culprit is a change in the upper weather pattern. A series of upper troughs and cold-core lows will linger over Ontario for the start of August. This pattern typically comes with scattered precipitation that can be tough for forecast for location, timing and intensity.
